“I always go to him even today and ask, ‘What can I do better?’” Bee said.

“It reminds me that I have multiple purposes in this world,” she shared.

I compared that to my work as an ER veterinarian. After an afternoon spent riding races as a jockey, working a night shift at the ER forces me to clear my mind by instantly refocusing on what is in front of me— doing my part to save lives or end suffering. We share our experiences of being alongside those who are suffering and the significance it brings to our lives.

Trust is key in horse racing photography. Bee cultivates relationships year-round, connecting with trainers, riders, and barn staff. She respects barn protocols, always works under supervision, and never interferes with the horses.
“I always let someone know I’m in a barn, I don’t bring anything for the horses, and I follow the barn’s lead,” she explained.
